Years ago, the role of a compounding pharmacist was much larger in healthcare when all prescription medicines were compounded. Mass drug manufacturing in the 1950’s and ‘60’s lead to a rapid decline in compounding. The pharmacist’s role as a producer of medications shifted to that of a dispenser of drugs. In fact, most pharmacists are no longer trained in compounding.
