X-ray crystallography shines light on antibody-Zika interactions

Six new classes of monoclonal antibodies specific to the Zika virus have been isolated, scientists report in a new study. In the same study, they also report that four of these six antibodies were able to neutralize the Asian, American, and African strains of Zika.

Although this study was done on an animal model, this is definitely one step towards the creation of a vaccine. The latest news about Zika virus being sexually-transmitted and its increasing diagnosis in America is very alarming. For one, a lot of travellers from America go to Asian countries and disease transmission is not far from happening. It is worrisome that if a powerful country like America cannot contain this virus, what more if it reaches developing countries? It is interesting to note...
