Yeah that is true. This new technology allows the scientists to play with the immune cells at their molecular level and make modifications that were not possible before. Autoimmune and other immune mediated disorders are very hard to treat, because it is difficult to develop drugs that can target those specific immune cells and to achieve a balance between normal immune activation and pathological overexpression of immune mechanisms. This is a great step forward in gene therapy. The term ‘Cancer-fighting army’ is really promising. I have a small concern though. By this method they modify genes so that it limits the T cell’s 'capacity to launch an immune response'. In theory this should lead to an uncontrolled immune response, which can be harmful not only for the tumour but also for the normally functioning cells. Uncontrolled triggering of immune mechanisms is known to be the pathology under many disease conditions....
