"When CO{-2}is abundant, stomata stay open for shorter periods and lose less water" That is a good hypothesis. But what would be the cumulative effect of this mechanism on photosynthesis? We can predict it both ways. Increased carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere could possibly accelerate the rate of photosynthesis, but on the other hand because the loss of water is less, the absorption of water from the soil becomes less. One of the mechanisms how water gets absorbed from the roots...
