The extraction of wisdom teeth when asymptomatic has been one of the greatest debates amongst dentists, and may not actually be necessary based on a review of existing studies.

Personally, I only push for the removal of a wisdom tooth when it is symptomatic. Otherwise, preventive measures will be a patient's own decision. This is a different case with orthodontic patients (patients who went through braces) because my point is that they went through year(s) of treatment to straighten their teeth and if an asymptomatic third molar starts to disrupt the alignment when it suddenly decides to come out, then there goes your money. That is time I push for odontectomy even...
