A long-sought vaccine against opioid drugs may now be on the cards

Drugs derived from poppy juice are known as opiods as we all know. Opiods are use for pain management but they are highly-addictive as well. Some people were prescribed opiods by doctors in a legitimiate situation but just could not stop taking them, this is reall saddening as most of these people did not take the drug for recreational purposes in the first place. Anti-opiod antibodies have been devised but they are ineffective as a vaccine. A new vaccine has been created by Dr Janda by using haptens derived from oxycodone and hydrocodone, which linked haptens to proteins with tighter and more effective methylene bonds. The vaccination was proved to block the opiods' effects on rats, and will hopefully be able to combat opiod addiction in the future.
