In Singapore, it appears to be quite easy to get into nursing, so it turns out that many people got into nursing not because there are passionate about the field but because they could not get into business or other courses. Sometimes, one has to be versatile, the nurse clinician often have to do manager work and vice versa. Similarly, educators have to do clinical work as well sometimes. Hence, there is really not a super clear defined role in these fields. I agree that the academic pathway will really provide tremendous gains in knowledge, skill sets, and opportunities. People have to keep an open mind when deciding to advance their careers.
