Female genital mutlilation is the ritual removal of some or all of the external female genitalia.This is a practice which could have long and long term implications for female on which it is practiced on. The WHO is opposed to all forms of this act and for medical practitioner from performing it (http://www.who.int/reproductivehealth/topics/fgm/health_consequences_fgm/en/). It is actually quite a surprise that UK which is quite a modern country has 8000+ cases of cases related to this practice....
