At some point in every successful nurse's career, being overwhelmed with tasks will require you to learn the delicate art of delegation in order to function more effectively. Delegation is the transfer of responsibility for the performance of a task from one person to another, and if carried out well, will afford you the required space and time to concentrate on more difficult patient issues and deal with them successfully.

Delegation will always be an important task in managing or leading a team. I definitely agree with the first point mentioned, about getting acquainted with the support staff. It wouldn't be as difficult to delegate/ assign tasks if you work harmoniously together. As long as this "being acquainted" is not misunderstood for something else as staff could use it as a way to be over familiarize with the superior and may have a tendency to brush off the assigned tasks.
