A Harvard study found that elderly hospitalised patients cared for by female doctors were less likely to die or be readmitted. The researchers even estimated that if male physicians could achieve the same outcomes as female physicians every year, 32,000 fewer patients would die. I think that the article made a sweeping generalization concerning the discrepancies between male and female doctors. It is sad to see articles such as this when the healthcare setting is moving towards gender equity. The doors have been opened to female physicians for the previously male-dominated fields such as surgery. It is unnecessary to harp on what deficiencies each gender has. Rather, studies must be centered around the overall improvement of all physicians regardless of gender. For the ...
