It's very unfortunate to read cases like this. However, I could not help but notice that a first year neurosurgery resident is already operating on the spine with instrumentation. As a trainee in the same specialty, I know that this procedure requires a lot of skill and dexterity. It is not a procedure that first year residents should do.
