An association between diabetes and Alzheimer’s has been observed. According to Professor Melissa Schilling, in the people with hyperinsulinemia (which is caused due to poor diet, fasting, obesity, and diabetes), the enzymes which break down insulin also break down a protein known as amyloid-beta which is known to accumulate in the brain of people resulting the formation of  tangles and plaques. Hyperinsulinemia is a preventable condition which may be prevented by an alteration in diet, lifestyle, and medications. Alzheimer’s can also be prevented by making individuals aware and getting them tested and treated for hyperinsulinemia.
