The number of cases handled by the Hospital Authority’s child and adolescent psychiatric teams has skyrocketed more than 50%from 18,900 in 2011 to 28,800 in 2016—with over half of the caseload being diagnosed with ASD or ADHD. Equally on the rise is the waiting time for the government’s psychiatric services, with some wait for more than a year to be diagnosed and treated.

Agree that untreated or delay in treatment of ADHD adolescent patients would lead to above mentioned comorbidities like substance abuse, mood disorder, alcohol or smoking habits. Youngsters self medicate with methamphetamine after reading from the web that stimulant could help their ADHD symptoms such as attention deficit. Some of them even engage in criminal activities if school learning process become less rewarding because of their learning disabilities due to mental problem. More is needed t...
