I wonder if this is indeed "neuroprotection" by the CCBs and ARBs or a construct more simple yet one that contributes significantly to poorer outcomes.

An alternate hypothesis is that CCBs and ARBs, with their longer duration of action, address blood pressure variability (BPV such as visit-to-visit variability and morning surge) in these patients better than b-blockers or diuretics would with their shorter duration. BPV is a construct that is a predictor of poorer outcomes.  (Total 119 words)
