China imposes new legislation to grant equal status for TCM and western medicine

China’s new law on Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has recently come into effect on 1st July 2017. The new legislation has introduced several initiatives to enhance the status of TCM in the country – including the plan to establish TCM institutions in public medical centres – encouraging funding for TCM development, and requiring TCM practitioners to acquire qualification through standardised examinations.
