The level of stress and burnout is high among healthcare professionals, particularly among those engaged in critical care, of which roughly half exhibit symptoms of burnout syndrome, according to a recent study from the Critical Care Societies Collaborative (CCSC).

While it is true that increasing stress while treating patients will end up in affecting the minds of treating doctors, I see a very contrasting picture in India. It is a general belief in India that the more aged a doctor is, he is all the more experienced. The official retirement age for teachers in a medical college has been recently elevated to 70 years and it includes clinicians. I see a lot of senior physicians around me who carry on with their consulting practice even after the age of 70...
